posted Aug 15, 2011 8:03 AM by Grant Harris   [ updated Aug 15, 2011 8:18 AM ]

As a part of the overall WAN upgrades this summer we are upgrading our existing wireless network. We have chosen the unified hardware solution by AeroHive. Their wireless products offer robust connections speed, transparent usage, central management, scalability, and supports integration into our current Active Directory environment for security policy enforcement.

We will be ripping and replacing the current hardware out over the next 3-4 weeks, if you experience any connectivity issues during this transition period please open a helpdesk ticket, contact us via email: networksupport@gloucester.k12.ma.us or phone: 1-978-281-9844

GHS Staff and Students: Computer Access

posted Jun 27, 2011 7:34 AM by Grant Harris   [ updated Jun 27, 2011 7:50 AM ]

The IT Dept. is changing the way Staff and students access the computers at GHS. Starting fall of 2011 all everyone will be required to use a username and password to logon.

GHS Staff: The user name is the first part of your email address before the @gloucester.k12.ma.us, and the pass word is
your email password.

GHS Students: You will initially login using a user ID that is mad-up of "First name . last name", here is an example: bob.smith . Your password will be you student ID but it must be 8 charters long. If your current student id is only 5 charters we will be adding three 0's to the front of the ID number. Example: 00051235.

Once you have logged you will be prompted to change your password. Your new password will need to be at least 8 charters long and contain one number one, capital letter, and one nonstandard charter. Also you should not use your login ID in the password.

Here is an example of a proper password: Kat025$e

Note, Staff will not have access to your password, so if you forget your account password your teacher will have to email support in order to have the password resest.

District Mac Uses - Active Directory Integration

posted Jun 24, 2011 10:07 PM by Grant Harris

The IT Department has completed migrating its Mac users to use our central Active Directory system for user authentication. This will allow for easier management of user accounts as well as provide greater flexibility with network resources. All uses files have been migrated over to the new users profiles.

The process is the same as it was on the old Open Directory system, at start up you will prompted for your user account information. The user name is the first part of your email address before the @gloucester.k12.ma.us, and the pass word is your email password.

If there is any issues or questions please contact the IT Department: networksupport@gloucester.k12.ma.us

posted Jan 20, 2011 1:19 AM by Grant Harris

The IT staff has deployed Google Docs for Grades 6-8 via a district Google portal. This allows student and staff to create, share and distribute files and projects over the internet. The portal offers access to the following Google tools:
  • Documents (Word)
  • Spreadsheets (Excel)
  • Presentations (PowerPoint)
  • Sites (web site tools)
These tools can be accessed from any computer at school or at home with internet access, thus allowing students and staff to collaborate on projects individually or in a group.

The goal is to incorporate this amassing online resource to Grades 9-12 next year.
