Summary & Overview

Gloucester has the opportunity to take the next step forward in building modern schools that will serve students, families, and the community for decades to come. After a thorough and transparent site selection and design process Gloucester is now ready to build a new school that will replace the aging, worn out, and crowded East Gloucester and Veterans’ Schools. The new school will be lighter, safer, and more spacious with room for project-based learning, special education classrooms, art, and music. The community will have access to a new gym and auditorium, a soccer field, and playgrounds.

If voters support the project on November 3rd, the Massachusetts School Building Authority will pay for $27 million of the project. If voters reject the plan, the city would lose the $27 million in state funding and will have to pay for the entire project on its own. East Gloucester and Veterans would remain substandard schools that will cost millions of dollars to repair, and they will still need to be replaced at an even greater cost to citizens.
